What to look for in Skin care products
Alcohol free
Alcohol is often hidden in the ingredients of skin care products, but it dries out your skin and may even contain toxins that harm your skin. Some brands add alcohol deliberately to make the cream feel lighter or to cause you to use the product more frequently. Others may have alcohol in their products, ignorant that many of their “natural” ingredients are alcohol extractions. All of our extractions are oil or CO2 extractions–a more costly but purer process.
CBD
Not all CBD is the same. Full Spectrum CBD may give you the benefits of what’s known as the entourage effect, but with that may come other contaminants and THC. Broad Spectrum CBD contains no psychoactive properties, and is THC free. CBD isolate uses extraction methods to isolate only the CBD. This is the cheapest, most processed, and likely least effective type of extraction. We choose to use Broad Spectrum CBD in all of our products for its purity and lack of THC while still providing all the benefits of the entourage effect. We carefully selected a 2000mg/oz concentration since this is the maximum amount you can effectively absorb through your skin. More may be better, but only slightly and at much greater cost. We suggest more frequent applications if a stronger effect is desired.
No artificial ingredients
Many skin care products contain artificial ingredients. Look out for the following in particular: Phthalates, Parabens, Formaldehyde, Triclosan, synthetic fragrances, Sulfates, and Polyethylene glycols. These chemicals disrupt hormones, dries the skin, and may cause eczema or even cancer. Melrose Essentials products contain no artificial ingredients or preservatives and the fragrance is due purely to the natural ingredients.
High quality ingredients
It may be difficult to tell the quality of ingredients used in a skin care product but there are a few must-haves such as a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification, a third party testing Certificate of Analysis, no waste or filler ingredients, and sourced responsibly. Our ingredients are all sourced in the USA to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
